Municipal Court Pro-Tem Judge

The City of Mt. Angel is soliciting letters of interest for a Municipal Court Pro-Tem Judge position.  Mt. Angel is located 13 miles northeast of Salem and 4 miles north of Silverton.  The Pro-Tem Judge position will hear matters when the Municipal Court Judge is unavailable or has a conflict. The city’s Municipal Court meets every other month during the months of January, March, May, July, September and November.  The court docket typically involves 40 cases per court session and issues that come before the court involve traffic citations and a few City Ordinances.  The court is supported by a part-time Court Clerk.  Interested candidates should provide a letter explaining your interest in the position, requested compensation, conditions, credentials, and experience. The Municipal Judge reports directly to the Mt. Angel City Council who will make the appointment and may choose to interview candidates on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 6:30pm.  Please send the letter and a resume to the Finance Director, Tara Von Flue.  These can be submitted via email to tvonflue@mtangel.gov or can be delivered to Mt. Court Appointed Attorney Opportunity

The Municipal Court is accepting resumes from attorneys seeking work as a court appointed attorney to represent the indigent accused. This position works as an independent contractor for 3-5 days each month at a rate of $65 an hour and is part of an established  Attorney of the Day rotation with other court appointed attorneys.

The current case mix includes traffic crimes and non-traffic misdemeanor “quality of life” offenses such as Trespass, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of Alcohol in Prohibited Places, etc.  Individuals that appear in our court may struggle with homelessness, substance abuse, mental health issues, co-occurring disorders, and/or issues related to military service.  Experience relevant to this population is desirable but not required.

Mid-level Associate Attorney

Minimum Qualifications: • Active membership in the Oregon State Bar in good standing, or ability to become licensed in Oregon within three months of appointment; • Strong work ethic and time management skills; • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently; • Ability to handle a variety of matters simultaneously to meet client demands; • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong client relationships; • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Oregon; • Close attention to detail, superior proof-reading skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment; and • Excellent research, writing, communication, and analytical ability. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of state and federal civil litigation experience, including managing civil discovery, drafting and arguing motions, taking and defending depositions, and preparing cases for trial. Judicial clerkship experience will be considered in lieu of or in addition to litigation experience.

Salary and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000; however, the base compensation presented to a candidate may vary based on skills and overall experience. This salary range is based on market location. Court Appointed Opportunity and Pro Tem Judge 

The Salem Municipal Court is now looking to recruit individual(s) to serve as Pro Tem Judge in the Salem Municipal Court.  Pro Tem Judges serve in the absence of the elected judge and when the court is conducting more than one courtroom docket. 

Pro Tem Judges preside over violation and criminal misdemeanor arraignments, entry of pleas and sentencing, jury and bench trials, probation violations, diversion entry and termination hearings, and complete other duties as needed.
